ERICA HARNEY KILLIAN MANSFIELD FOUNDATION
Monday July 18th 2011
6-11pm
The Greenpoint Gallery
390 McGuinness Boulevard
Brooklyn, New York
Musical guest: Jon Braman.
On Monday July 18th, 2011, I held a solo exhibition of my drawings and paintings
at the The Greenpoint Gallery in Brooklyn, NY to benefit the Killian Mansfield
Foundation.
Killian Mansfield was one of my promising young art students at the New York
State Summer School of the Arts/Visual Arts in 2007. In 2009 he lost his five year
battle against synovial sarcoma, a rare form of cancer, at the age of 16. This
exhibition, in honor of his eighteenth birthday, will be a commemoration of Killian’s
life and legacy, The Foundation’s mission is “to empower children with cancer and
other serious illnesses through integrative health care dedicated to treating the
whole child- mind, body and spirit.”
This one-night-only exhibition consumed the entire top floor of The Greenpoint
Gallery with 250 of my drawings and paintings of various sizes and prices, to cater
to the widest possible audience. 50% of my sales from the event and the week
following have been donated to the Killian Mansfield Foundation. The title piece,
"Here Comes the Sun" was sold through an online auction which closed on July
25th 2011.
Killian was an inspiration: one of those truly spirited, creative souls, possessing of
a purely optimistic attitude and appreciation of life that most of us take for granted.
Throughout the duration of his illness, Killian touched everyone who knew him with
his genuinely warm heart, his witty humor, his creative pursuits (as an artist and as
a master of the ukulele) and a sincere passion for living. He was the embodiment
of sunshine. It is to this memory that I dedicated my work at this event,
This exhibition would not have been possible without all of the help and support I
received from family, friends, colleagues, and complete strangers! Thank you to
the countless individuals and organizations that have shown their support of this
exhibition by helping me to promote, organize, finance, document and volunteer at
the event.
Thank you to those who attended the event, and to those who helped to make it a
success by purchasing work!
